ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Jessica.

I’m a UK-based game designer, narrative designer, and writer who cares deeply about how games make people feel and how they function. I’ve always been drawn to stories - not just the ones we tell, but the ones players discover through play. The moments between actions. The quiet aftermath of a decision. The way a mechanic, system, or rule can communicate something words never could.

For me, storytelling and game design are inseparable. I’m fascinated by how systems, pacing, constraints, and player choice shape emotion, meaning, and memory. Whether I’m designing a quest, a level flow, a narrative system, or a line of dialogue, I’m thinking holistically about the player experience: what they’re learning, what they’re testing, what they notice, and how design nudges them toward understanding rather than instruction.

I graduated with First Class Honours in Game Design and Art in 2020 - a year that taught me a great deal about uncertainty, adaptability, and working within constraint. Around the same time, I became a parent, which quietly reshaped how I approach game making: It strengthened my empathy, sharpened my prioritisation, and reinforced my belief that games can be spaces for comfort, reflection, and connection - especially when designed with care and intention.

Since then, I’ve built a career that blends curiosity with craft. I started in indie QA, where I learned how players really interact with systems, then moved into Content Design on a live-service mobile game, working at a weekly cadence within technical, production, and business constraints mostly within the narrative design discipline. Over time, I grew into a confident game and narrative designer, collaborating across disciplines to design systems, implement content, write and stage story, and iterate based on feedback and data.

Along the way, I’ve written stories, designed mechanics, built prototypes, mentored students, spoken at universities, entered game jams, and designed a board game from scratch - experiences that strengthened my systems thinking as much as my storytelling. I enjoy understanding why something works, where it breaks, and how small design decisions can meaningfully change player behaviour or emotion.

At my core, I’m a generalist with a designer’s mindset and a storyteller’s heart. <3 I love collaboration, thoughtful problem-solving, and projects where narrative is treated as a design discipline rather than an afterthought. I bring care, intention, and ownership to everything I work on because I believe games matter - and the people who play them do too.

I’m still hungry to grow, still excited by challenge, and still very much in love with making games that feel alive.
