Overview

A 2D top-down pixel-art adventure demo built in Unity, focused on exploration and puzzle-solving, created in one month as a hands-on game design and technical challenge I tasked myself with.

My Main Contributions

Core Gameplay & Mechanics

Designed and implemented all core mechanics, including movement, interaction, and puzzle systems, ensuring the game was intuitive to pick up while still offering satisfying progression.

Level & World Design

Built the full game world and levels in Unity, using layout, pacing, and spatial design to guide player flow and support exploration.

Puzzle Design

Created bespoke puzzles, including a jigsaw-style puzzle and a merge-based puzzle, balancing clarity, challenge, and reward within tight scope and time constraints.

Technical Implementation (Unity)

Implemented gameplay systems directly in Unity, learning to manage scenes, layers, Tilemaps, and GameObjects while applying basic C# scripting to execute my GDD. Utilised online learning (C# courses and YouTube) to aid my development.

Player Guidance & UX

Used minimal dialogue and environmental cues to onboard players, teaching controls and mechanics through play rather than heavy instruction.

Iteration & Scope Management

Maintained a daily devlog in conjunction with my GDD, helping me reflect on design decisions, stay within scope, address problems and successes, and iterate intentionally.

Solo Development & Problem Solving

Worked as a solo developer, making end-to-end design decisions and adapting quickly to technical limitations while prioritising player experience.
